This is a small scene made about 8 months ago, some subtle Diablo fan art if you will.
Having worked almost exclusively with scans for the last 4-5 years, I have lost touch with some of the more traditional parts of asset creation. So this was an attempt to get back into it a bit.
I've debated long and hard whether or not I should post it at all, as it's not really up to standard in my opinion and clearly out of my comfort zone. The scene is a bit boring and lacking in variety. I think it ended up being a case of trying to do too much with too little.
But there are certain aspects of the scene that I really like, and I learned a lot making it, so I finally decided, what the hell, nothing is perfect, right?
All assets and textures are handcrafted using a mix of Blender/Zbrush/Substance and Photoshop. The scene is rendered inside UE4.
To texture all the rocks in the scene I set up a Smart Material in Substance Painter that is just Drag'n'Drop on on the baked asset. Voila! (See the end of the post for Video)
It was fun practice, and something I would like to do more of... if only there was time. Back to scans for now and I'll leave this type of art to the people who know how to do it properly :P
