THE FINALS - Fangwai - Vegetation

Last summer the Embark Art Team sent a small group of people to Hong Kong(Pro Tip: Don't go Hong Kong in the summer. WARM and MOIST) to capture references and scans for our upcoming "China-map". I was part of this group and responsible for capturing nature and vegetation, among other things.

For Fangwai I focused mostly on creating all the new vegetation needed for the level, based on the references and scans we brought back from Hong Kong.

Hong Kong had an amazing amount of interesting growth and vegetation due to the very warm and humid climate.
Unfortunately both due to time constraints and the added complexity of the destruction in THE FINALS, not everything could be translated into the level. But we did our best to capture the essence of what we experienced on site during our trip.

Fangwai was a bit of a special level, as it was both very complex thematically with many different and demanding subthemes that had to be produced in a relatively short amount of time, so I think almost the entire maps team worked on the level in some shape or form for almost the entire duration of the production.

So instead of naming everyone and risk forgetting a name, lets just say that the entire maps team worked full steam on this level!
Once the design of the level was set, most of the art was done within a timespan of about 3 months.
