English Ivy

Some time ago I made a Nanite Ivy kit, I was never quite happy with the end result and always felt that I could achieve similar or even better results by using a traditional alpha cards approach, so I have been tugging away at this for a while now in my spare time.

This weekend I decided to wrap it up by building a small forest scene fully overgrown by ivy to show of the new kit.
I wanted to do one of those forests that I am sure you have seen images of on the GoogleMachine, of trees being completely overrun and smothered by ivy growth.
So I spent about half a Sunday to set up this small scene, nice and relaxing to do something manual and small and not have to worry about endless expanses of forest. :) It was also perfect to test the usefulness of the Kit.

Like I mentioned, this time around I am using a tradition alpha card approach, meshes range from 180-1600tris depending on size, and come fully equipped with LODs.

As with all my work, by goal is always to make things that are optimized and easy to use.
My years making art in the gaming industry has taught me that the simpler the better. Always.
(They call me Simple Rob at work)
(No they don't, really)
(Or maybe they do, behind my back)

In addition to the new ivy I used assets from my Norway Spruce Kit to construct the scene.

Both the English Ivy and Norway Spruce kit are available on FAB if you want to use it in your own scenes :)
