Creating an environment from scratch is such a huge undertaking that it often stops me from even starting, knowing that it will takes weeks or months to finish it. So I figured I would try something new this weekend: Speed Environment!
I gave myself 24 h to finish a small scene, starting from scratch with absolutely nothing. Modelling, texturing, scene layout, lighting, and post, all within 24 h!
I authored all textures from scratch in Substance Designer, did the modelling in Blender and assembled it all in Unreal with dynamic lighting only. I did cheat a little with the grass and shamelessly stole that texture from the Megascan Free Scans Library :)
It was a fun exercise to work so intensely towards such a short deadline, cutting a lot of corners along the way and focusing more on the big picture rather than individual details.
This was based loosely on the Road to Dimholt in The Return of the King.
